The countdown is based on a real timestamp: switching tabs or locking your screen won't lose time. When a round ends you'll hear a chime and the tab title shows the countdown while it runs.

What is a pomodoro timer?

A pomodoro timer breaks your work into 25-minute focused intervals separated by short breaks. After four intervals you take a longer break. The method was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s using a tomato-shaped kitchen timer โ€” "pomodoro" is Italian for tomato. The structure forces single-tasking: one task per interval, no distractions until the bell rings.

How to use this pomodoro timer

  1. Pick one task. Write it down if it helps โ€” one task per interval.
  2. Press Start. The default interval is 25 minutes of focus.
  3. Work until the bell. No email, no phone, no tabs.
  4. Take the 5-minute break the timer hands you. Stand up, look away from the screen.
  5. Repeat. After four rounds, take the long break โ€” 15 minutes by default, adjustable any time.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a pomodoro?

A traditional pomodoro is 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute short break. After four pomodoros you take a longer break of 15โ€“30 minutes.

Is this pomodoro timer free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download and no signup. Your session history is stored on your own device.

Can I change the 25-minute interval?

Yes. Open the durations row under the timer and set any focus, short break or long break length you prefer.

Does it keep counting if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer is based on a real end timestamp, so background tabs and screen locks don't slow it down. The tab title shows the remaining time while a session runs.
