What is the Great Lock In?
The Great Lock In is a self-directed commitment that runs from September 1 to December 31: 122 days. You choose three to five personal rules — across training, study or work, money, and focus — and hold them until New Year's Eve instead of waiting for a January resolution. It spread on TikTok in late summer 2025 and returns every September. There is no official founder, no app, and no restart penalty.
Dates and day count
September 1 to December 31 — 122 days, counting both endpoints. The start is flexible and the end is fixed: starting on a later date still leaves a meaningful run, and the tracker above computes your personal day number and remaining days.
| Challenge | Start | End | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great Lock In | Sep 1 | Dec 31 | 122 |
| Winter Arc | Oct 1 | Dec 31 | 92 |
The rules that survive a real season
There are no official rules — that is the whole point. The structure that works for most people:
- Keep it to 3–5 rules. More than five and one bad day breaks the whole set.
- One rule per pillar: training, study or work, money, and screen time.
- Make rules binary. "Read 20 minutes" survives; "read more" doesn't.
- Check in daily. One tap above keeps the streak honest — streaks are the mechanism, not the prize.
- Write your start date down. A late start you committed to beats a perfect start you postponed.
